Overview

▼ What is JEE Advanced Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), commonly known as JEE Advanced, is a national-level competitive entrance examination that serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering, science, and architecture programmes at India’s most prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is widely regarded as one of the most challenging undergraduate entrance examinations in the world.

JEE Advanced is conducted jointly by the seven zonal coordinating IITs — IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee — on a rotational basis, under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). For the year 2026, IIT Roorkee is the organising institute. The examination is held once a year in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

Only candidates who qualify JEE Main and rank among the top 2,50,000 in Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The exam consists of two compulsory papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2 — both conducted on the same day in two separate shifts. Successful candidates are eligible for admission to B.Tech, B.S., B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc., Integrated M.Tech, and Dual Degree programmes at 23 IITs and other premier institutions such as IISc Bangalore, IIST, IIPE, and RGIPT. Seat allocation is carried out through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.

🏛️ JEE Advanced 2026 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee on 17 May 2026 (Sunday). Registration opens on 23 April 2026 at 10:00 AM IST for JEE Main qualified candidates.
