The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination for Class 10 students. The board is a statutory and autonomous body established under the “Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act” 1965 (amended in 1977). It is the most popular education board in terms of enrollment in high school in India, only after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The MSBSHSE is responsible for setting the curriculum, releasing the time table, prescribing textbooks, and conducting examinations fairly. Maharashtra SSC Board exams include subjects such as English, Social Science, Hindi, Marathi, Science, and Mathematics. Around 1,700,000 students appear for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams every year across more than 5,000 examination centers in the state.
